Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Counter-Attack

The glass-walled conference room on the top floor of Farrington Tower in downtown San Francisco felt less like a workspace and more like a colosseum. By Thursday afternoon, the board of directors was seated in a semicircle of leather chairs, murmuring anxiously among themselves. At the head of the long oak table sat my mother, flanked by corporate legal counsel and Genevieve Ashford’s father, a heavy-hitting venture capitalist whose investment firm held twenty percent of our voting shares.
The heavy oak doors swung open.
I didn't walk in alone.
Kelsey stood beside me, her posture impeccably straight in a tailored navy blazer I had had a private stylist rush-deliver that morning. Behind us walked our four sons, dressed in matching charcoal blazers, looking like miniature executives ready to audit a hostile takeover.
"Julian," my mother snapped, standing up from her chair, her face flushed with incandescent fury. "Have you completely lost your mind? Bringing children—illegitimate, unverified children—into a corporate board meeting? And where is Genevieve? Her father is right here!"
"My name is Julian Farrington," I said, my voice carrying effortlessly across the silent room as I strode toward the head of the table. "And as the controlling shareholder of Farrington Enterprises, I am calling this emergency session to order."
"You cannot do this!" Mr. Ashford bellowed, slamming his palm onto the polished wood. "My daughter was publicly humiliated at your engagement gala! Your mother has assured us that these little runaways are nothing more than a scam orchestrated by a bitter ex-employee!"
I didn't blink. I pulled a thick Manila folder from my briefcase and dropped it squarely in front of him.
"That folder contains three things," I said, resting my hands on the back of the chairman's chair. "First, a complete forensic audit of the corporate trust funds my mother embezzled from in 2020 to pay off private investigators and hospital administrators to falsify medical records. Second, the original, unredacted adoption and custody documents proving that Kelsey Miller was coerced under severe legal duress to surrender her parental rights. And third, court-certified DNA paternity results processed by an independent laboratory this morning, confirming with a 99.999% certainty that Cormac, Callan, Connor, and Cillian Farrington are my biological sons and the legal heirs to this company."
The room descended into a dead, suffocating silence.
My mother staggered backward, clutching the edge of her chair as if she had been physically struck. Her legal counsel quickly opened the folder, flipping through the pages with frantic, trembling fingers before looking up at me with an expression of sheer defeat.
"Mr. Farrington," the lead attorney murmured, clearing his throat. "The documentation appears... legally sound."
"It's more than sound," I said, my eyes locking onto my mother’s pale, panic-stricken face. "It's airtight. Effective immediately, my mother is stripped of all voting shares, executive privileges, and board titles due to financial fraud and coercion. Furthermore, any legal action initiated against Kelsey Miller or my sons will result in immediate criminal prosecution."
"Julian... you can't do this to your own family," my mother whispered, her voice finally breaking, the formidable matriarch reduced to a frightened, cornered woman.

"You stopped being my family the day you traded my children for corporate compliance," I replied coldly. "Security will escort you out."
Within minutes, two building guards stepped forward, guiding my mother and a sputtering Mr. Ashford out of the boardroom. The heavy oak doors closed behind them with a definitive, echoing thud that signaled the end of an era.
