Chapter 5 - The Sunset and the Open Road**

Three months later, the golden autumn sun was setting brilliantly over the waters of Puget Sound, casting a warm, amber glow across the wrap-around porch of my newly acquired waterfront estate on Bainbridge Island.
The transition had been swift, brutal, and absolute.
Stripped of his wealth, abandoned by both Natalie and Victoria—who immediately turned on each other when the federal indictments dropped—Daniel was currently facing serious felony charges for corporate wire fraud, embezzlement, and industrial espionage. Cole-Blake Architecture had been successfully rebranded under my sole leadership as Blake & Associates, now operating as the premier architectural firm in the Pacific Northwest, with a board of directors that actually respected competence and integrity.
I stood on the porch, holding a warm cup of coffee, breathing in the crisp, clean ocean air.
My daughter Emma, now thriving in college and fiercely proud of her mother, stepped out onto the porch, handing me my car keys.
“Mom, the car is packed and the tank is completely full,” she smiled warmly.
I looked down at the keys, feeling a profound sense of lightness in my chest.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” I said, wrapping my arm around her shoulders.
I walked down the private stone pathway toward my sleek, obsidian-black SUV parked in the driveway. I climbed into the driver’s seat, started the engine, and glanced down at the digital dashboard.
The fuel gauge glowed a solid, brilliant green, pointing straight at 'F'.
