Chapter 3 - The Restraining Order and the Corporate Counter-Strike**

The legal offensive began at 8:30 AM sharp on Wednesday morning. With the help of a brilliant family law attorney named Marcus Vance—a ruthless litigator who specialized in high-conflict divorces and protective custody cases—we stood before Judge Robert Sterling in the Cook County Superior Court.
Armed with Dr. Vance’s official pediatric trauma report, Officer Miller’s police documentation, Lucas’s brave testimony, and my digital evidence of Arthur’s threatening text messages, Marcus secured an emergency ex parte restraining order. It granted me exclusive temporary possession of our suburban home, full emergency custody of Lucas, and a mandatory five-hundred-yard stay-away order preventing Arthur from approaching either of us or contacting us electronically.
By noon, two county sheriff’s deputies served Arthur with the eviction and restraining order right in the middle of a high-stakes board meeting at his downtown corporate office.
The public humiliation must have been devastating. When Arthur attempted to return to our house later that afternoon to collect his personal belongings, he found his key jammed in a deadbolt that had been hastily re-keyed by an emergency locksmith, with two private security guards standing on the porch waiting to hand him a single cardboard box.
He immediately fired off a dozen furious voicemails, screaming that he would bankrupt me in court, that no judge would ever take away his parental rights, and that I would end up with nothing.
He still didn't understand the magnitude of his mistake.
Two days later, Marcus and I sat in a sunlit conference room reviewing the digital files I had pulled from Arthur’s hidden cloud folder.
“Claire, where did you get these?” Marcus asked, his eyes wide as he scrolled through scanned PDFs of corporate wire transfers, forged board resolutions, and tax evasion ledgers.
“From his private digital safe,” I replied calmly, sipping my coffee. “He’s been siphoning funds from his real estate firm’s regional development accounts into dummy shell companies for over three years.”
Marcus let out a low whistle, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. “This isn't just a messy divorce anymore. This is grand larceny, wire fraud, and corporate racketeering. If we hand this over to the federal prosecutor’s office alongside the domestic abuse charges, your husband’s entire empire will collapse overnight.”
“Do it,” I said without hesitation. “He thought he could use fear to silence my son. Let’s see how well he speaks when federal marshals are reading him his rights.”

The trap was fully set. All we had to do was wait for Arthur to make his next arrogant move.
