Chapter 3 - The Forensic Trap**

Three days later, inside the sleek, mahogany-paneled boardroom of Vance Logistics regional headquarters in Oak Creek, Arthur Vance sat at the head of the long table, flanked by his smirking son Richard and their senior corporate counsel.
Arthur, now seventy-two with thinning white hair and cold, reptilian eyes, tapped a gold-plated pen against the polished wood.
“Well, Damian, it’s been a decade since you bothered to grace our family offices with your billionaire presence,” Arthur drawled, oozing condescension. “I suppose you’re here to beg for more cattle grazing rights or ask for a bailout on one of your speculative Houston tech startups?”
Damian sat directly across from them, leaning back casually in his leather chair, his tailored suit jacket unbuttoned. He didn't smile. He didn't blink. He simply stared at his uncle with an expression of supreme, icy indifference.
“No, Uncle Arthur,” Damian said smoothly. “I’m actually here to discuss a minor internal bookkeeping error that occurred four years ago.”
Richard Vance shifted nervously in his seat, adjusting his silk tie. “What bookkeeping error? If you’re talking about that thieving little accountant Mabel Sterling, the matter was settled. She embezzled the funds, confessed under administrative review, and we mercifully chose not to press maximum federal criminal charges.”
“Did she confess, Richard?” Damian asked, his voice dropping into a dangerous purr as he slid a thick manila folder across the mahogany table. “Or did you use your administrative super-user privileges to spoof her IP address, hack her login credentials at 2:00 AM on a Tuesday, and route two hundred thousand dollars into a shell corporation registered in the Cayman Islands under your college fraternity brother's name?”
The color drained entirely from Richard’s face. He slammed his hand onto the table. “That’s complete bullshit! You’re fabricating corporate slander!”
“Am I?” Damian gestured toward the door.
The heavy oak conference doors swung open. Marcus Vance strode into the room carrying a high-definition portable projector, followed closely by two armed federal marshals and a representative from the United States Department of Labor and Financial Crimes Unit.
“Good morning, gentlemen,” Marcus announced briskly, plugging the projector into the boardroom media port. “As senior forensic auditor for Damian Vance’s private portfolio, I was given complete subpoena authority over these legacy servers last night. What we discovered wasn't just simple embezzlement—it was a multi-layered corporate conspiracy designed to frame an innocent employee and cover up systemic tax fraud.”
The projector screen flickered to life, illuminating the dark boardroom with glowing green lines of encrypted metadata, digital MAC address logs, and high-resolution copies of wire transfer receipts bearing Richard Vance’s personal electronic signature and IP address from his home broadband network.
Arthur Vance jumped to his feet, his face turning a furious shade of purple. “Shut that machine off right now! You have no legal jurisdiction to audit these private internal servers without a federal warrant!”
“Actually, Uncle Arthur,” Damian said calmly, standing up to tower over his aging uncle, “federal agents secured that grand jury warrant three hours ago. And federal marshals are currently executing search warrants at Richard’s personal estate and secondary bank accounts as we speak.”
Richard panicked completely. He lunged toward the exit, but the two armed federal marshals stepped forward instantly, blocking the doorway and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists with a sharp, echoing click.
“Dad! Do something! Get our lawyers!” Richard shrieked, thrashing against the marshals as he was forced down onto the carpet.
Arthur sank slowly back into his chair, his chest heaving, realizing with sudden, crushing horror that his multi-million-dollar empire was about to implode under the weight of his own family’s criminal greed.

Damian walked slowly toward the door, pausing just before the threshold to look back down at his uncle with absolute contempt.
“You ruined an innocent woman’s life, destroyed her career, and forced my daughter to grow up in a tarp-covered shack while you sat on stolen money,” Damian said coldly. “Consider this your corporate eviction notice.”
