Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Ambush and the Frozen Accounts**

The quarterly board meeting of Pendelton-Mitchell Holdings was scheduled for ten o'clock on a rainy Thursday morning in the penthouse boardroom of the downtown financial tower. Martha Mitchell, accustomed to ruling her corporate domain with an iron fist and a fake smile, sat at the head of the polished obsidian table, wearing an expensive Chanel suit and sipping espresso. Julian sat to her right, looking exhausted and disheveled from days of trying to locate me and dealing with bounced credit cards. They believed today was just another routine gathering to approve new real estate acquisitions funded by my design firm’s latest commercial contracts. They had no idea that the entire board had been summoned under an emergency shareholder override provision.
The heavy mahogany doors swung open precisely at 10:00 AM. I didn't walk in wearing the quiet, muted tones Martha always criticized. I wore a tailored midnight-blue pantsuit, my hair pulled back into a sharp, commanding bun, with Marcus Vance and two armed private security guards flanking my sides. I strode straight down the center aisle, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor, and pulled out the chair directly opposite Martha at the head of the table. Martha dropped her coffee cup, the dark liquid spilling across her paperwork. “What in God’s name are you doing here, Anna?” Martha shrieked, standing up so fast her chair screeched against the floor. “Security! Throw this ungrateful peasant out of this building immediately!”
Neither of the security guards moved an inch—because they were now under my direct employment contract. I leaned forward, resting my hands flat on the table, and fixed my mother-in-law with a stare so freezing it made her stumble backward. “Sit down, Martha, before you embarrass yourself further,” I said, my voice carrying an effortless, razor-sharp authority that instantly silenced the murmuring board members. I gestured to Marcus, who tossed a thick, bound dossier onto the center of the table in front of each terrified director. “As of 9:00 AM this morning, forensic audits conducted by federal investigators have uncovered systemic corporate embezzlement, tax fraud, and unauthorized asset stripping totaling over four point five million dollars—stolen directly from my design revenues and my daughter Chloe’s federal trust fund.”
Julian leapt to his feet, his face turning the color of curdled milk, his voice cracking in absolute panic. “Anna, you’re insane! You can’t just walk in here and make wild accusations! Mom, tell her—tell her she’s lying!” Martha tried to recover her haughty composure, crossing her arms and sneering. “You arrogant little gold-digger! This company was built by my family before you were even born! You’re nothing without my son, and you’ll be bankrupt by the end of the week once we sue you for defamation!” I smiled—a cold, merciless smile that made the blood run out of their faces. I tapped my smartphone on the table, projecting the viral video Clara had sent me directly onto the giant boardroom presentation screen behind them.

The high-definition video of Martha slapping my two-year-old daughter across the face played on loop across the massive screen, followed immediately by the audio recording of Martha and Julian plotting to steal Chloe’s multi-million dollar inheritance. The entire boardroom erupted into gasps of absolute disgust. Several senior board members visibly recoiled, turning away from Martha in sheer revulsion. “You didn't just assault a toddler,” I whispered, standing up slowly to tower over them. “You recorded yourselves committing federal financial fraud. Look at your phones, Julian. Go ahead. Try to log in to your corporate credit cards.” Julian’s hands shook as he pulled his phone from his pocket. He tapped frantically, his eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated horror as a red notification flashed across his screen: ACCOUNT FROZEN BY FEDERAL COURT ORDER. The trap had sprung, and my revenge had only just begun.
