Chapter 4 - The Fall of the House of Cards**

With Ethan sitting in a federal holding facility awaiting arraignment and facing a mandatory prison sentence of at least ten to twelve years without parole, the complete dismantling of his carefully curated life proceeded with terrifying, clockwork efficiency.

News of his arrest hit the front page of every major financial newspaper in the Pacific Northwest by Tuesday morning. Headlines blared: “Tech Mogul Ethan Bennett Exposed in Multi-Million Dollar Trust Fraud Scheme; Assets Frozen by Federal Authorities.”

High-society friends, sycophantic business partners, and country club acquaintances who had spent years kissing up to Ethan suddenly vanished into thin air. His phone stopped ringing entirely, save for one desperate, screeching voice.

Gloria.

For the first forty-نده hours, Gloria had flooded my phone with hysterical voicemails, threatening me, cursing my name, and demanding to know why her precious son had been dragged out of his office in handcuffs. When she realized that her monthly luxury allowance had bounced permanently and her name had been flagged on every credit card account we owned, she decided to take matters into her own hands.

She showed up unannounced at my suburban home on Wednesday afternoon, pounding furiously on the front door while screaming at the top of her lungs.

Through the security intercom screen, I watched her standing on the front porch, wearing her expensive mink coat, her face twisted into an ugly mask of unmitigated rage.

“Chloe! Open this door right now, you ungrateful little witch!” Gloria shrieked into the camera. “You have ruined my son’s life! You put him in a cage over a harmless family disagreement! You open this door and explain yourself to me this instant, or I swear I will make sure you never see the light of day again!”

I calmly pressed the intercom button and spoke in a tone so chillingly calm it made her stop dead in her tracks.

*“Gloria,”* I said softly. “You’re trespassing on private property owned entirely by the Sterling Family Trust.”

Gloria blinked furiously at the camera lens, her screeching abruptly cutting off. “What are you talking about?! This is Ethan’s house! My son owns this estate!”

“Your son never owned a single brick of this house,” I replied smoothly. “In fact, as of yesterday morning, every single asset Ethan ever claimed to own—his luxury cars, his bank accounts, his retirement funds, and his precious wardrobe—has been legally seized by federal authorities and my family’s legal team to recover the four million dollars he embezzled.”

Gloria’s jaw dropped so wide I thought it might unhinge. “That’s... that’s impossible! Ethan is a successful executive! He’s a self-made man!”

“He was a fraud,” I corrected sharply. “And as for you? Your monthly allowance check bounced permanently three days ago. I suggest you pack your bags and prepare to move out of your country club condo, because the bank is foreclosing on that property by Friday.”

Before she could scream another insult, I clicked the intercom switch off, cutting her off permanently.

Through the security monitor, I watched with absolute, quiet satisfaction as Gloria stood frozen on the porch for a few disoriented seconds before stumbling down the steps, completely broken, realizing that her entire life of luxury had been built on a foundation of sand.

The nightmare was finally over. The people who thought they could abuse my child, silence my voice, and steal my inheritance had been completely, irrevocably erased from my life.
