The Moretti Debt / Chapter 8 / 10

Chapter 8 - The Clearing Storm

Three days later, the city of New York returned to its frantic, noisy rhythm, but inside the Moretti estate, the air felt lighter, cleared of the storm that had threatened to tear us apart.

Victor Vance’s arrest made front-page news across the tri-state area. The federal indictment detailed decades of racketeering, extortion, and corporate sabotage, effectively dismantling his criminal empire overnight.

In the sunroom, Leo was happily coloring his new sketchpad while I sat by the window, sipping coffee.

Dante walked into the room, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, looking every bit the ruthless billionaire he was. But as his eyes landed on us, the hard lines of his face softened.

He walked over, placing a white envelope on the coffee table in front of me.

“What’s this?” I asked, picking it up.

“Your diner,” Dante said simply. “I transferred the deed and full commercial ownership into your name. It’s debt-free, fully renovated, and ready whenever you want to reopen it. Or... you can sell it and buy a house anywhere in the world.”

I stared at the legal documents inside the envelope, my breath catching in my throat. “Dante, I can't accept this. It’s worth millions.”

“It’s a fraction of what you saved me,” he replied, sitting down on the edge of the sofa next to me. He reached out, gently taking my hand in his large, warm grip. “You don't have to work double shifts anymore, Elena. You don't have to struggle to survive.”

“And what about you?” I asked, looking up into his dark eyes. “What happens to us now that the bad men are gone?”

Dante didn't look away. He squeezed my hand tighter, his thumb brushing over my knuckles. “That depends entirely on you. The doors to this house are unlocked, Elena. But I’m hoping you choose to stay.”
