Chapter 2 - Operation Phoenix Rises**

Within three minutes of stepping back into the limousine, the interior had transformed into a high-stakes corporate war room.

My phone was pressed to my ear, working three calls simultaneously on a conference line.

“Camille,” I said the instant my maid of honor answered on the second ring. “Stop crying. Listen to me very carefully. Walk out of Crestview Country Club right now. Do not let Beatrice or Julian see you leaving. Get into your car, head down Route 9, and divert every single arriving guest bus to the coordinates Marcus is texting you right now.”

“Elenor? What are you talking about? Where are we going?!” Camille gasped through the phone, the distant sounds of clinking champagne glasses and string music bleeding through her speaker.

“We’re going to the old ironworks loft district,” I replied, my voice dropping into an unshakeable, commanding cadence. “Tell the guests there was a structural safety hazard at Blackwood and we’ve upgraded to an exclusive, private luxury loft venue downtown. If anyone asks questions, tell them the bride wanted a modern aesthetic. Move!”

I hung up before she could argue and immediately switched lines.

“Marcus, status report on the warehouse?”

“I secured the old Sterling Steel Foundry loft downtown!” Marcus shouted over the roar of a commercial kitchen engine in the background. “It’s massive, brick-walled, sky-lit, and completely empty. But Elenor, we don't have tables, chairs, lighting, or floral arrangements! We have ninety minutes!”

“You have a multi-million-dollar catering fleet equipped with mobile staging equipment,” I countered smoothly, staring out the tinted window as the limo sped away from the locked gates of Blackwood Estate. “Call every high-end event rental vendor in the city. Tell them Blackwood Catering is paying triple-rate cash premiums for immediate delivery of industrial-chic farm tables, Edison bulb chandeliers, and white velvet lounge seating. Put it on my personal trust account. Spare no expense.”

“Consider it done!” Marcus laughed, the sound bubbling over with sheer adrenaline.

While Marcus mobilized the catering armada, I dialed my personal estate attorney, Harrison Vance.

“Harrison, I need you to meet me at the Sterling Steel Foundry loft with three copies of our pre-vetted contingency property lease and a writ of temporary injunction against the Sterling Family Trust for fraudulent breach of contract.”

“Elenor, my dear, it’s Saturday morning,” Harrison stammered. “What kind of emergency—?”

“Julian and his mother tried to hijack my wedding venue and replace me with his ex-fiancée,” I said calmly. “If we file this injunction before noon, their corporate bank accounts linked to the wedding expenses will be legally frozen for forty-eight hours. Let’s see how fast Victoria smiles when Julian’s credit cards start declining live at the altar.”

A heavy, appreciative chuckle rumbled down the phone line. “Consider the paperwork drafted, Elenor. I’ll meet you at the loft.”

By 10:45 AM—forty-five minutes after finding the padlock on Blackwood Estate—I walked through the towering double doors of the abandoned ironworks loft.

It was breathtakingly raw. Sunlight poured down through massive industrial skylights, illuminating aged exposed brick walls and polished concrete floors. It wasn't a traditional ballroom; it was a cathedral of modern industrial chic, waiting to be reborn.

And my team was already moving with terrifying efficiency.

Fourteen delivery trucks backed into the loading bay. Dozens of crew members rushed in carrying sleek wooden tables, cascading greenery, and hundreds of flickering pillar candles. Within minutes, the cavernous, dusty space was transforming into an avant-garde masterpiece that made Blackwood Estate look like a dated museum.

I stood in the center of the room, my ivory gown sweeping the polished concrete, breathing in the scent of fresh eucalyptus and burning ambition.

I hadn't just survived their trap. I had built a better kingdom from the ashes.
