Chapter 3 - Stripped of Everything**

The humiliation inflicted upon Derek and his mistress in the hallway of Riverside Medical Center was swift, public, and utterly absolute.

As the four heavy-set security guards grabbed Derek by his designer suit jacket and physically hoisted him toward the exit doors, his mistress shrieked in absolute protest as two female security officers stepped forward.

“Hey! Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?!” she yelled, trying to pull away.

“Take off the coat,” the female guard instructed flatly, her voice leaving zero room for argument.

Faced with the terrifying reality of armed security and the wrath of the Sterling family empire, the terrified mistress desperately unbuttoned my custom ivory cashmere coat right there in the middle of the crowded corridor, letting it slide off her shoulders and drop unceremoniously onto the hospital tile floor. A passing nurse casually picked it up, folded it neatly over her arm, and carried it back into the NICU to return to me.

Derek was dragged past the main waiting room, where dozens of visiting families, medical staff, and corporate executives stared in open shock at the disgraced executive being hauled out by his collar. Someone whipped out their phone and started recording, capturing the exact moment Derek tripped over his own expensive leather shoes and sprawled face-first onto the concrete outside the emergency room entrance.

Inside the safety of the NICU, the oppressive, toxic cloud that had suffocated the room moments earlier vanished completely.

Grandfather Arthur walked over to Noah and Emma’s incubators, peering through the clear plastic walls at his tiny, fragile great-grandchildren. The hard, ruthless billionaire facade completely melted away, replaced by the profound, watery tenderness of a grandfather looking at the future of his bloodline.

“They have your eyes, Harper,” Grandfather whispered softly, gently tapping a wrinkled finger against the glass of Noah’s pod. “Fighters. Both of them.”

“They take after their mother,” I said, a genuine smile finally breaking across my face for the first time in weeks. “And their great-grandfather.”

Grandfather let out a low, rumbling chuckle, turning to wrap his arm protectively around my shoulders. “Now, let’s talk about cleaning up this messy little paperwork disaster your ex-husband tried to trap you in. My legal team is already reviewing the document he had you sign. Spoiler alert: a contract signed under emotional duress in a medical ward while facing targeted financial coercion is worth less than the paper it’s printed on.”

“Actually, Grandfather,” I murmured, my eyes gleaming with a sudden flash of strategic brilliance, “let him keep the signed papers for now.”

Grandfather raised a bushy white eyebrow in surprise. “Oh? And why would we do that, my little bird?”

“Because,” I replied smoothly, “if he thinks he legally won the divorce and secured my premarital tech shares, he’s going to run straight to his corporate partners and try to leverage those non-existent assets by tomorrow morning to save his failing startup. The moment he attempts to sign a binding contract using assets he doesn't actually own, he crosses the line from civil breach into federal wire fraud and grand larceny.”

Grandfather stared at me for three seconds in stunned silence. Then, a massive, proud grin spread across his face, and he threw his head back and laughed out loud—a booming, joyful sound that caused a nearby heart monitor to beep in rhythm with his amusement.

“My God, Harper,” Grandfather chuckled, shaking his head. “You truly are a Sterling through and through. You don't just defeat your enemies; you hand them the rope and let them tie their own hangman's knot.”

“I learned from the best,” I replied, leaning my head against his shoulder.

While Derek was outside picking himself up off the concrete pavement, realizing his bank accounts were frozen, his corporate funding was terminated, and his reputation was burning to ashes, my grandfather and I were busy drawing up the blueprint for his total, unmitigated destruction.
