THE CELLAR OF VENGEANCE / Chapter 4 / 5

Chapter 4 - The Downfall of the Senator’s Daughter

By midnight, the storm outside had intensified, howling across the freezing asphalt of Philadelphia like a pack of starving wolves. Inside the basement holding cells beneath the Rossi estate—cells that few outsiders even knew existed—Victoria Kensington sat huddled in an expensive cashmere sweater, shivering violently against the damp concrete wall.

The heavy iron door unlocked with a loud, metallic clank, and the bright overhead bulb flooded the cell with harsh light. Leo Rossi stepped inside, followed closely by Mateo. They didn't look angry anymore; they looked clinical, detached, and utterly merciless.

“You can’t keep me here!” Victoria shrieked, scrambling to her feet, her hair matted and her makeup streaked with tears. “My father will send the National Guard! The FBI is already tracking my phone! You’re committing an act of war against a federal official!”

“Your father’s phone is currently ringing with an anonymous audio file,” Leo replied smoothly, stepping into the small cell. He pulled his smartphone from his pocket and pressed play.

The tinny speaker in the quiet room instantly broadcasted Victoria’s own shrill voice recorded earlier that afternoon: “The child was having a tantrum! She deserves to freeze in the dark! No one cares about a sickly brat!”

Victoria’s face drained of every trace of color. She staggered backward until her spine hit the stone wall. “Where… where did you get that? The house cameras were disabled!”

“You disabled the decoy security system I installed specifically to test people like you,” Mateo corrected with a cold, humorless smile. “The real cameras operate on an isolated, military-grade encrypted server that even the CIA can't touch.”

Leo stepped closer, towering over her. “Your father has already been informed that his daughter is mentally unstable, criminally negligent, and legally implicated in an ongoing federal money laundering probe involving cartel front companies. Within twenty minutes, his campaign office will issue a statement announcing that you have suffered a severe mental breakdown and have voluntarily checked into a secluded European sanitarium. You will never set foot in America again.”

“No… no, please, Leo!” Victoria sobbed, dropping to her knees and grabbing the hem of his dark wool coat. “I’m sorry! I’ll pack my bags! Just don't send me away—!”

Leo pulled his coat free with a sharp tug, looking down at her the way a surgeon looks at a cancerous tumor before discarding it into a medical waste bin.

“You touched my daughter,” Leo whispered. “You are lucky you are leaving this estate breathing.”

He turned on his heel and walked out of the cell, leaving Mateo to lock the heavy iron door behind them. By morning, Victoria Kensington would vanish from the face of the earth, swallowed whole by the very underground machine she had foolishly tried to manipulate.
