Chapter 10 - The New Foundation

By noon, the estate had returned to a semblance of normal order, though the atmosphere among the staff had fundamentally shifted. Fear was gone; in its place was a fierce, unbreakable devotion.
I sat at the head of the long mahogany dining table in the sunlit breakfast room. Outside, the harbor sparkled brilliantly beneath a clear blue California sky.
Mia stood beside the table, pouring fresh, dark coffee into my cup—brewed twice as strong, just the way I liked it, with the quiet grace of a woman who finally felt safe in her own home.
“Thank you, Mia,” I said, looking up at her.
“You’re welcome, Mr. Moretti,” she smiled softly, setting the pot down.
At the far end of the table, Harper sat in a high chair, happily dipping toast into a cup of warm milk, completely unbothered by the complex machinery of power, betrayal, and justice that surrounded her world.
My phone vibrated against the wood.
I picked it up and glanced at the screen. It was an encrypted message from Dante, reporting from the financial district downtown: “All offshore accounts frozen. Zurich assets successfully repatriated. The restructuring of the Moretti holdings under your direct control is complete, Boss.”
I tapped a single reply: “Good. Burn the rest of the ledgers.”
I locked the phone, set it face down on the table, and picked up my coffee cup.
The Moretti family had survived another war. The blood on the floor had been washed away, the traitors had been buried in the dark where they belonged, and the fortress was secure once more.

I took a slow sip of the coffee, watching the sunlight dance across the harbor.
We were standing on solid ground again. And this time, no one would ever take it away.
