Chapter 4 - The Corporate Execution

The collapse of the Vance family empire didn't take weeks. It took less than forty-eight hours.

By Monday morning, my father’s legal team had systematically dismantled every business venture, commercial lease, and real estate partnership tied to the Vance name. Sterling Global called in every outstanding bridge loan, foreclosed on their primary residential developments, and stripped Mr. Vance Sr. of his board seats across three major city corporations.

David sat at the kitchen island of the sprawling penthouse suite my father had transferred into my sole name, staring blankly at his laptop screen as notification after notification flashed across his monitor.

Bank accounts frozen. Corporate credit lines revoked. Employment termination notices delivered from his firm’s executive board.

“They fired me,” David whispered, his voice hollow, his eyes sunken and bloodshot. “Every corporate partner in the city just blacklisted me. Nobody will even take my calls.”

I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the glittering skyline of the city, sipping a cup of black coffee while Maya played happily with her new toys in the sunlit playroom down the hall.

“You traded your loyalty for a front-row seat at your family’s cruelty,” I said without turning around. “You watched them belittle me for six years. You watched Chloe treat our daughter like an inconvenience. And you stayed silent because you thought their social status elevated yours.”

David buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking with ragged, humiliating sobs. “I was a coward, Rachel. I was blind. Please… I know I don’t deserve you, but don’t take Maya away from me. She’s my daughter.”

I finally turned around and looked at him—not with anger, but with profound, chilling indifference.

“You’ll get standard visitation rights, David,” I said evenly. “My lawyers have already filed the divorce papers. The financial settlement is generous enough that you won’t starve, but you will never work in this city’s corporate sector again. You wanted wealth and status so badly? Now you can live the rest of your life knowing you lost everything because you couldn't stand up to your sister.”

He opened his mouth to plead, but the words caught in his throat. He knew there was nothing left to negotiate. The game was over.
