Chapter 3 - The Audit Unveiled

Standing beneath the brilliant stage lights, I looked out over a sea of stunned, pale faces. Julian was frozen near the base of the stage, his complexion turning a sickly, ash-gray color, while Camilla shrank back into the shadows of the crowd, desperately trying to make herself invisible. I took the microphone from Malcolm’s hand, the cool metal steady in my palm.

“Thank you, Malcolm,” I began, my voice clear, resonant, and completely devoid of emotion. “For twenty years, Aurelia Systems has been a cornerstone of American technology and engineering. But over the past three years, the company was systematically hollowed out from the inside by reckless mismanagement, fraudulent vendor shell companies, and executives who viewed corporate assets as their personal piggy banks to fund lavish lifestyles and secret affairs.”

A heavy, suffocating silence blanketed the ballroom. Julian pushed his way frantically toward the steps of the stage, his face distorted with panic and rage, but two massive security guards hired by Northstar Holdings materialized instantly, blocking his path with unyielding arms.

“You can’t do this!” Julian screamed, his voice cracking hysterically as he pointed a shaking finger at me from the floor. “She’s lying! She’s mentally unstable! She’s just a decorative housewife playing corporate dress-up!”

I didn't blink. I simply tapped the remote in my hand, and the massive projection screen behind the stage flickered to life, illuminating the entire room with a glowing, highly detailed financial audit.

“Let’s review the actual numbers, Julian,” I said smoothly, turning my gaze to the giant screen. “Exhibit A: The unauthorized transfer of four hundred and fifty thousand dollars in Q3 research grants into a private offshore account registered under a shell corporation called Vanguard Solutions. An account managed exclusively by Julian Vance and his mistress, Camilla Price.”

Gasps erupted across the room. Several senior board members jumped to their feet, staring up at the screen in absolute disbelief as bank routing numbers, personal signatures, and wire transfer confirmations flashed in stark, undeniable detail.

“Exhibit B,” I continued, my tone dropping an octave, “the systematic falsification of quarterly expense reports, including luxury travel, high-end jewelry purchases—such as the diamond earrings currently adorning Ms. Price’s ears—and the financing of a luxury downtown condo used for clandestine meetings while company employees faced rolling pay cuts.”

Julian stopped screaming. He dropped to his knees right there on the shattered glass of the floral vase, his hands clutching his head as the brutal reality of his total, irreversible destruction crashed down upon him. He had spent months plotting a corporate coup, entirely ignorant of the fact that Northstar Holdings—my firm, founded by my mother and expanded by my own hands—had been quietly buying up Aurelia’s distressed debt for over a year, positioning me not just as his wife, but as his ultimate, untouchable master.
