Chapter 3 - The Collapse of an Empire

While my father’s legal team dismantled Julian’s corporate life with surgical precision, Julian was learning the true definition of powerlessness.
He had been detained by federal agents right at the edge of the resort pier, bundled into an unmarked federal SUV before he could even reach his lawyer. Now, he sat in a chilly, windowless interrogation room at the federal detention center in downtown Miami, staring across a stainless-steel table at two armed investigators.
The heavy metal door swung open, and Julian sat up straight, trying to force an indignant corporate CEO expression onto his face.
"This is an outrage!" Julian snapped, slamming his palms on the table. "I am the CEO of Vance Global Technologies! I demand to speak to my legal counsel immediately! You have no grounds to hold me!"
The investigator on the left—a stony-faced woman with an FBI badge pinned to her lapel—slapped a thick manila folder down on the table.
"Mr. Vance, let’s talk about your grounds," she said calmly, flipping open the folder. "At 14:32 hours today, federal warrants were executed across your corporate headquarters, regional warehouses, and private residences. Your primary operating accounts have been frozen under emergency national security provisions."
Julian scoffed, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips. "National security? Are you insane? I build logistics software and cloud infrastructure! This is a civil dispute with my wife!"
"Your wife," the second investigator interrupted quietly, sliding a certified document across the table. "Genevieve Sterling. Daughter of Admiral Hector Sterling. The private seed capital of twelve million dollars that launched Vance Tech six years ago? Wired directly from a restricted military-family trust account. The patents your company holds? Registered under her maiden name as primary co-inventor."
Julian’s face drained of color. The smug arrogance melted away, replaced by a sudden, creeping terror as his eyes scanned the legal filings.
"No... that's impossible," Julian stammered, his voice dropping an octave. "Gen... Genevieve told me her family was ordinary. She worked in marketing! She drove a mid-range sedan!"
"She wanted to see if you loved her," the FBI agent stated bluntly. "Instead, you tried to murder her and your unborn child to secure a merger with Victoria Hayes—whose father's shipping firm is currently under federal investigation for international contraband smuggling."
Before Julian could process the avalanche of ruin crashing down around him, the metal door opened again.
A tall man in a crisp naval uniform walked in, carrying a leather briefcase. It wasn't an investigator. It was Captain Miller, my father’s chief legal attaché.
Captain Miller didn't sit down. He looked down at Julian with absolute, clinical disdain.
"Mr. Vance, the Admiral sends his regards," Miller said smoothly, placing a single sheet of paper on top of the folder. "Sign this voluntary relinquishment of all corporate shares, patent rights, and marital assets. If you refuse, we will bypass the civilian courts entirely, transfer your case to a federal military tribunal under wartime asset forfeiture statutes, and you will spend the rest of your natural life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary where the sun doesn't shine."
May you like
Julian stared at the paper, his hands trembling violently as he realized the nightmare had only just begun.
