Chapter 2 - The Sound of the Snap**

Preston’s fist came slicing through the air with reckless, arrogant momentum, completely telegraphing his trajectory. To an untrained eye, it might have looked fast. To someone who had sparred with professional fighters for years, it moved in slow motion.
I didn't flinch. I didn't duck away.
Instead, I stepped sharply inside his guard, pivoting on my heel to shift my center of gravity. With my left hand, I deflected his wrist outward with a sharp, crisp redirection technique, completely neutralizing the force of his punch. Before his brain could process what was happening, my right hand gripped his forearm, and I used his own forward momentum against him, executing a textbook shoulder throw.
*CRASH.*
Preston’s two-hundred-pound frame hit the hardwood floor with a heavy, breathless thud that rattled the remaining dishes in the kitchen.
Before he could even register the shock, I dropped my weight downward, driving my knee directly into his solar plexus to pin him securely to the floor, while my left hand wrenched his arm behind his back in a high-tension lock.
Preston let out a choked, desperate gasp, the wind knocked completely out of his lungs. The arrogant bully vanished in an instant, replaced by a terrified man staring up at me with wide, bloodshot eyes.
“Get off me! What the hell are you doing?!” he screamed, thrashing wildly beneath my weight.
I leaned down, pressing my forearm harder against his shoulder joint until he let out a sharp hiss of pain.
“You wanted a lesson in submission, Preston?” I whispered coldly into his ear, my voice cutting through the humid air of the ruined dining room. “Let’s talk about consequences instead.”
I pulled my smartphone out of my pocket with my free hand, unlocked it effortlessly with my thumb, and tapped the recording app. The audio file began flashing a bright red recording indicator.
“Say it again,” I commanded, loosening the pressure slightly. “Tell me about how you control the bank accounts. Tell me what you said about hitting your wife.”
Preston’s face flushed a deep, violent shade of crimson. Pride and rage warred inside him, but the physical agony of the joint lock kept him grounded. “You’re crazy! Let me go right now or I’ll call the cops and tell them you attacked me!”
“Go ahead,” I replied smoothly, tapping the screen to save the audio file and instantly uploading it to my private cloud server and my personal attorney’s automated inbox. “Call them. But keep in mind that every single word you uttered about financial control, coercion, and physical assault was just recorded in crystal-clear high definition. Along with the security footage from the hallway camera right outside our door.”
Preston froze. His jaw slacked. “Hallway... what hallway camera?”
“The one I installed last week to monitor package deliveries,” I lied smoothly, watching panic wash over his features. “It catches sound through the door, Preston. The entire neighborhood just heard your little speech.”
He thrashed again, but I maintained the lock effortlessly.
“You’re going to pack your bags tonight,” I told him, my voice flat, merciless, and absolute. “You’re going to sign an immediate, uncontested separation and annulment agreement tomorrow morning. And if you ever so much as breathe in my direction again, I will release this audio to your corporate firm, your family, and the district attorney.”
I stood up abruptly, stepping back and smoothing down my blouse.
Preston scrambled backward on the floor, clutching his aching shoulder, looking at me not as a wife, but as an apex predator who had just toyed with him for sport.

“You... you set me up,” he whispered, his voice trembling.
“No, Preston,” I corrected him, walking over to the kitchen counter to pour myself a glass of ice water. “I just gave you the exact reality check you deserved.”
