Chapter 4 - The Ledger of Ruin**

Diane stepped forward from our table, sliding a thick, leather-bound portfolio across the clerk’s desk toward Judge Vance.
“Your Honor, for the past twenty-four months, Mr. Thomas Grant has operated under the blissful delusion that he successfully isolated and discarded his wife while retaining absolute dominion over his business empire,” Diane began, her voice carrying absolute, undeniable authority. “What Mr. Grant failed to realize—because he was far too busy funding luxury penthouses and diamond bracelets for his thirty-five-year-old companion—was that Eleanor Grant wasn't just a supportive housewife. She was, and has legally been since 1994, the primary co-founder, silent majority shareholder, and legal architect behind the corporate foundation of Grant Holdings.”
Thomas half-rose from his chair, his face turning a mottled, furious shade of crimson. “That’s an outrageous lie! She never worked a day in her life! She stayed home!”
“Mr. Grant, sit down or you will be held in contempt of this court in less than five seconds,” Judge Vance warned sharply, his eyes flashing with ice. Thomas dropped heavily back into his seat, breathing heavily, his hands trembling against the polished wood.
Diane turned toward Marcus Vance, who stepped up to the witness stand with a rolling cart stacked high with financial audits, banking records, and corporate registry documents.
“Your Honor, let’s look at the actual paper trail,” Diane continued, pointing toward the documentation. “Two years ago, when Mr. Grant walked out of his family home, he believed he controlled thirty million dollars in liquid capital and real estate assets. However, under standard corporate restructuring laws executed with Mr. Grant’s own legal signatures—signatures he carelessly applied during corporate refinancing rounds without reading the attached trust disclosures—every single commercial property, every waterfront warehouse, every construction contract, and every corporate bank account was legally transferred into the Eleanor & Family Revocable Trust. Mr. Grant owns precisely zero percent of Grant Holdings today.”
Brooke gasped audibly from the front row, clutching her Chanel purse as if it were about to be ripped from her hands. “What... what is she talking about?” she whispered loudly, looking frantically at Thomas.
Thomas ignored her, his face completely drained of blood, his eyes bulging as he stared across the room at me with sheer, unadulterated horror. He finally understood why the quarterly cash flow anomalies had occurred. He finally understood why investors had quietly walked away. They hadn't abandoned him; they had simply been redirected to the true majority shareholder—me.
“Furthermore, Your Honor,” Diane added, holding up a separate legal document stamped by the state attorney general’s office, “we have attached certified proof that in an attempt to hide corporate revenues from impending tax obligations last month, Mr. Grant filed fraudulent federal asset disclosure statements—perjury under federal law. He swore under oath that he owned assets he had already legally forfeited. Marcus, please present Exhibit H.”
Marcus opened a massive ledger, displaying side-by-side financial comparisons highlighting how every single dollar Thomas thought he was generating was automatically funneled through our trust accounts, leaving his personal accounts legally bone-dry, saddled with millions in unpaid corporate liabilities and mounting legal fees.
The courtroom was dead silent. You could hear the hum of the overhead fluorescent lights.

Judge Vance slowly flipped through the pages of the financial audit, his expression turning grim and disgusted as he absorbed the staggering scale of corporate deception and legal exposure Thomas had brought upon himself.
The hunter had spent two years walking directly into a cage, believing he was the one holding the key.
