Chapter 4 - The True Master of the Estate

“Arthur?!” Victoria shrieked, her voice cracking with sudden, hysterical disbelief as she took a panicked step backward. “What are you doing here?! How did you get past security?! Get him out of this room right now before I have the guards throw you into the street!”
Sabrina turned away from the mirror, her eyes wide with outrage and embarrassment as she stared at me. “Dad? Are you out of your mind? You were told not to come! You’re ruining my wedding day just because you’re jealous that Raymond is walking me down the aisle! Get out!”
Before I could answer, heavy footsteps echoed behind me in the hallway. Raymond pushed his way past the threshold, his face flushed with arrogant fury as he pointed a manicured finger directly into my chest.
“Listen here, you pathetic little tailor,” Raymond snarled, puffing out his chest. “This is a high-society event, and you don't belong here. You’re nothing more than hired help who got lucky with a sewing machine. Get out before I have security drag you out by your collar!”
I didn’t blink. I didn’t flinch. I simply reached into my breast pocket, pulled out a pristine, folded document, and unfolded it slowly.
“You’re right, Raymond,” I said, my voice carrying a quiet, authoritative resonance that instantly silenced the room. “I am a tailor. But I am also something else.”
Down in the courtyard below, through the open French windows, Marcus Vance’s amplified legal voice boomed clearly across the estate's public sound system, echoing off the stone walls for every single guest to hear:
*“Attention all guests, vendors, and attendees. Please be advised that St. Claire Manor, along with all surrounding land, structures, and commercial rights, is private property owned exclusively by the Meridian Commercial Holding Trust, managed solely by Mr. Arthur Pendelton. Today’s event permit is hereby revoked effective immediately due to massive fraudulent misrepresentation, unauthorized trespassing, and breach of commercial covenant.”*
A wave of absolute shock and gasps swept through the courtyard downstairs. High-society guests dropped their drinks, whispering frantically among themselves as they realized the wedding they were attending had just been declared illegal trespass.
Up in the bridal suite, Raymond’s face drained of every drop of color. He looked from me to Victoria, his arrogant smirk completely shattered. “What... what is he talking about? This venue belongs to the St. Claire Hospitality Group!”
“It used to,” I said smoothly, stepping further into the room. “Until I bought the holding company outright ten years ago to ensure this historic property remained protected from corporate developers. Your daughter didn't rent this venue, Raymond. She rented it from me.”
Victoria lunged forward, her nails clawing at the air, her face twisted in pure, unadulterated venom. “You lying fraud! You don’t own this place! You live in a cramped little house and spend all day sewing buttons! You’re nothing!”
“Am I?” I asked calmly.
Marcus Vance stepped into the bridal suite right behind me, holding a stack of freshly stamped federal warrants and asset-freeze orders. He handed a copy directly to Victoria, whose hands trembled violently as she looked down at the court seal.
“Mrs. Pendelton—or whatever alias you’ve used on your fraudulent wire transfers—you are formally served with a federal indictment for grand larceny, wire fraud, and conspiracy,” Marcus announced crisply. “All of your personal bank accounts, offshore holdings, and newly acquired assets have been frozen by court order as of 12:00 PM today. Furthermore, Mr. Pendelton has officially filed for immediate divorce on grounds of marital financial infidelity and severe psychological abuse.”
Sabrina stared at her mother in sheer horror, the reality crashing down around her like an avalanche. “Mom... what is he talking about? What wire transfers? What fraud?!”
Victoria couldn’t speak. She collapsed onto the velvet sofa, weeping hysterically as the trap she had helped build finally snapped shut around her throat. Raymond, realizing his golden goose had turned out to be a legal minefield, took two quiet steps backward toward the hallway, trying to slip away unnoticed.
“Not so fast, Raymond,” I called out, my eyes locking onto him.
Two local sheriff’s deputies stepped into the doorway behind him, blocking his escape route completely.

“Mr. Raymond Sterling,” one of the deputies said, flashing a shiny pair of steel handcuffs. “There’s an active bench warrant for your arrest regarding twenty years of federal child support evasion and interstate financial fraud. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”
