Chapter 4 - The Arrest of the Dynasty

The grand banquet hall, once filled with the hollow laughter of corrupt elites, now resembled a military staging ground. Federal agents moved with ruthless efficiency, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto political donors, campaign managers, and family members alike. The luxury of the Vale estate offered no protection against federal warrants signed by a district judge less than twenty minutes prior.
Celeste was sobbing hysterically, her designer face-lift and expensive makeup ruined as two tactical officers pinned her arms behind her back to cuff her wrists. “You can’t do this to me!” she wailed, her voice echoing off the limestone pillars. “My husband built this city! We own the judges! We own the police! You’ll all be fired by morning!”
“Your husband is currently being detained at his country club by our second tactical unit, Mrs. Vale,” Lucas replied coldly, holding up an official arrest warrant stamped with federal seals. “And as for owning the courts—well, the Department of Justice just expanded its jurisdiction. You’re looking at forty counts of public corruption, campaign finance fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.”
Adrian tried to crawl away toward the side exit, but an agent calmly stepped on the back of his designer jacket, pressing him firmly into the marble floor before clicking the handcuffs securely around his wrists. As Adrian was hauled to his feet, he looked at me with pathetic, desperate eyes.
“Nora... please,” Adrian whimpered, his voice cracking in utter humiliation. “We’re married. We’re family! You can’t let your brother do this to me. Tell them it’s a mistake!”
“You watched your mother drag me across the floor by my hair, Adrian,” I said, my voice entirely devoid of emotion as I looked down at the man who had treated me like property. “And you recorded it on your phone instead of stopping her. That wasn't a mistake. That was who you’ve always been. Enjoy federal prison.”
Damian sat slumped on the velvet sofa, staring blankly at the floor as two agents hauled him upright. The tailored navy suit he had bought specifically for tomorrow’s mayoral inauguration looked wrinkled and pathetic. His political career, built on lies, intimidation, and stolen public funds, had been utterly obliterated before it even began. Tomorrow morning’s headlines wouldn’t feature his swearing-in ceremony; instead, the front pages of every national newspaper would feature mugshots of the entire Vale family behind iron bars.
Lucas walked over to me, holding a sleek black tablet displaying the live asset seizure logs. “Every bank account, every offshore trust, and every piece of real estate owned by the Vales has been officially seized under civil asset forfeiture laws. You broke the case wide open, sis. The Attorney General’s office is already preparing a commendation.”
I looked around the sprawling, magnificent room—the crystal chandeliers, the imported marble floors, the opulent symbols of a dynasty built on the backs of exploited workers and stolen public money. In less than an hour, every single vestige of their stolen power had been utterly stripped away.

“I didn't break the case, Luke,” I whispered, watching as Celeste and Damian were marched out the shattered front doors past a horde of flashing media cameras and news vans that had already arrived at the estate gates. “I just collected the receipts they were too arrogant to hide.”
As the last of the Vale family members were loaded into the back of transport vans under the glare of federal spotlights, the oppressive shadow that had hung over my life for five long years finally lifted completely.
