Chapter 5 - A New Empire

Two weeks later, the crisp autumn wind whipped through the towering oak trees of Lincoln Park as I stood on the front steps of the grand three-story house, watching a professional moving crew haul Vance and Loretta’s designer furniture out the front door.
The legal fallout had been swift, merciless, and absolute. Confronted with irrefutable proof of corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and forgery, Vance’s business partners immediately ousted him from Miller & Associates, leaving him saddled with hundreds of thousands of dollars in personal liability and facing a potential prison sentence. Loretta, stripped of her stolen luxuries and forced to confront the reality of her broken scheme, had packed her bags in furious, humiliated silence, retreating to a cramped, leaky studio apartment on the far South Side.
As for the house, the civil court recognized the fraudulent nature of the deed modification and swiftly restored my absolute, unchallengeable ownership of the property. But I didn't want to live in the shadow of their cruelty.
With a stroke of my pen, I placed the entire estate on the open market, sold it to a corporate buyer for a massive cash profit, and used the proceeds to completely buy out Vance’s remaining commercial liabilities—not out of mercy, but to ensure the courts stripped him of every remaining asset he thought he owned. He was left legally bankrupt, socially disgraced, and entirely alone.
I stood on the sunlit sidewalk, watching the final moving truck pull away from the curb, leaving the grand entryway completely empty.
My phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw a notification from my bank app: my updated asset portfolio shimmered with financial independence, security, and absolute power. No joint accounts. No secret leaks. No leeches feeding off my hard work.

I took a deep, steady breath of the crisp Chicago air, feeling a profound, unshakeable sense of peace settle deep into my bones. They had tried to starve me, diminish me, and erase me from my own life. Instead, they had provided the exact catalyst I needed to burn down their illusions and build a magnificent, unbreakable empire of my own.
I turned my back on the empty house, stepped into my brand-new car, and drove forward into a future where I would never, ever settle for the bottom of the cooker again.
