Chapter 4 - The Federal Marshals**

Three men in dark federal suits strode purposefully down the center aisle, pushing past stunned socialites who scrambled out of their way. Two of them wore the unmistakable windbreakers of federal investigators, flanked by local county sheriff’s deputies.
The lead agent stopped right at the foot of the stage, flashing a silver badge.
“Julian Vance?” the agent called out loudly.
Julian froze, staring at the badges in absolute paralysis. He couldn't speak. He couldn't move.
“Mr. Julian Vance, you are under federal arrest for corporate wire fraud, embezzlement of charitable non-profit assets, tax evasion, and forgery of financial instruments,” the lead agent recited crisply, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt.
As the federal agents mounted the stage, seized Julian roughly by both arms, and clicked the cold steel cuffs around his wrists, the illusion of his untouchable corporate empire shattered entirely. He didn't fight back. He was completely hollowed out, staring blankly at the floor as they hauled him away past rows of former friends and colleagues who couldn't even bear to meet his gaze.
As they dragged him past the bar, my mother-in-law—who had been sitting at the VIP table near the front—let out a piercing shriek of absolute dismay and fumbled backward into her chair, clutching her pearls in total shock.
Mr. Sterling turned to me, offering a polite, respectful bow. “The transition of all primary corporate assets, real estate holdings, and foundation accounts into your sole independent trust has been officially completed, Mrs. Vance. The Vance Foundation is now legally reorganized under your exclusive direction.”
“Thank you, Jonathan,” I replied evenly.
The ballroom was thick with a suffocating, unbearable silence. The guests who had laughed so hard at my expense just twenty minutes ago now sat frozen, terrified that their own ties to Julian might drag them down into the expanding federal investigation.
I stepped up to the podium, gently moving the microphone stand into position. I looked out over the sea of anxious, trembling faces—the same people who had ignored me, mocked me, and treated me like a domestic servant for decades.

“Thank you all for attending tonight’s gala,” I announced, my voice steady, resonant, and dripping with quiet authority. “As you can see, the auction has concluded, and the ownership of this evening’s proceeds—and everything else—has officially changed hands. The bar is still open, but the party is over. Have a safe evening.”
I turned away from the podium, leaving the stunned crowd sitting in total silence, and walked gracefully down the stage steps alongside Mr. Sterling, stepping out of the ballroom and into a brand-new world.
