Chapter 4 - The Legal Dissection**

The color vanished entirely from Diane’s face at my words, her eyes darting sharply toward her son as if wishing she could take back every secret conversation they had ever shared.

“Claire, honey, let’s not be hasty,” Diane switched tactics instantly, pasting on a sickeningly sweet, fake smile as she took a tentative step toward the porch steps. “You’re pregnant, you’re emotional, and obviously you’ve misinterpreted some family discussions while we were away. Let us inside, unpack our bags, and we can sit down over a nice cup of tea and talk this out like family.”

“Family?” I stepped closer to the threshold, looking down at my mother-in-law with blistering contempt. “Is that what you call the people who conspired behind my back to steal my inheritance? Is that what you call a woman who treats her pregnant daughter-in-law like an unpaid servant while plotting to rob her blind?”

Brooke crossed her arms, her face twisting into an ugly snarl. “Oh, please! You’re acting like a hysterical lunatic! It was just business restructuring! Every couple protects their assets!”

“It wasn't your assets to protect, Brooke,” I replied smoothly, pulling a thick manila folder from behind my back and tossing it casually onto the porch floor right at Caleb’s feet. It landed with a heavy, ominous thud.

Caleb stared down at the folder, too terrified to bend over and pick it up.

“Go ahead, Caleb,” I prompted softly. “Open it. Read the first page. It’s the summary of everything you lost while you were posting beach selfies in Cabo.”

Slowly, his hands shaking so badly he could barely pinch the cardboard tab, Caleb dropped to one knee on the concrete porch. He flipped open the folder.

Inside were printed, time-stamped color screenshots of the email thread between him and Brooke detailing their plan to pressure me into signing over the deed and draining our joint corporate accounts. Behind those were certified bank statements showing the exact moment yesterday morning when Marcus Hale’s office executed the emergency corporate dissolution, stripping Caleb of his sixty-percent operational salary, freezing every line of commercial credit tied to his name, and seizing his luxury company vehicle.

And right on top was the formal eviction notice, backed by a judge’s emergency signature, terminating his right of residency on my pre-marital estate due to material breach of our postnuptial agreement.

“No...” Caleb choked out, his voice breaking into a pathetic sob as he dropped the papers. He looked up at me, tears welling in his eyes. “Claire, please... you can’t do this. I’m your husband! We have a baby coming! How am I supposed to live? Where am I supposed to go?”

“You should have thought about that before you let your mother turn our marriage into a corporate extraction scam,” I said, my voice cutting through his tears like a razor blade. “The company car has already been repossessed from the airport parking lot. Your personal bank accounts attached to our joint registry are locked pending forensic audit for embezzlement. And as for your clothes and personal belongings?”

I snapped my fingers. Thomas Vance stepped back inside for a moment and returned carrying three large, heavy-duty plastic garbage bags, which he dropped unceremoniously onto the gravel driveway beside their designer suitcases.

“They’re right there,” I said coldly. “You have ten minutes to clear your junk off my property before Thomas calls the county tow truck to haul away your mother’s Mercedes.”
