Chapter 4 - The Corporate Execution

Before Daniel could formulate another pathetic excuse or launch into another screaming fit, a low, rumbling engine echoed down the driveway.

A sleek, matte-black Mercedes SUV rolled up silently behind his parked Porsche, cutting off his exit route. The doors opened with a synchronized click, and two men in tailored charcoal suits stepped out. They didn't look like local rent-a-cops; they looked like federal marshals or corporate executioners. Leading them was David, my family’s veteran head of security—the same man who had once pulled me out of a collapsing business deal years ago.

David walked up the stone steps, ignoring Daniel entirely as he stopped right beside my shoulder, holding a heavy leather briefcase.

"Everything secured, Ms. Vance," David said, his voice deep, calm, and carrying the absolute authority of a man who answered only to my family. "The corporate headquarters has been cleared of unauthorized personnel. The legal team has locked down the main servers, and the local police have been notified regarding the unauthorized squatting of private commercial property by former executives."

Daniel whipped around, staring at David, then back at me, sheer panic vibrating in his voice. "Who the hell is this? Claire, what is going on here? You can't do this! You're destroying everything I worked for!"

"Everything my father worked for," I corrected him coldly, stepping aside to let David open the briefcase.

Inside sat a stack of thick legal documents stamped with official red wax seals and the embossed crest of Vance Global Holdings.

David pulled out the top folder and handed it directly to Daniel, who stared at it as if it were a venomous snake.

"Read page four, Mr. Thorne," David said evenly. "That’s the notice of immediate asset seizure regarding unauthorized corporate embezzlement. Turns out using company funds to finance private personal gifts for your new fiancée—including a three-carat diamond ring purchased through corporate shell accounts—constitutes grand larceny."

Daniel staggered back a step, colliding against the pillar of the porch. "That's... that's impossible. Those accounts were audited—"

"By your hand-picked Chief Financial Officer, who is currently being questioned by federal investigators for financial fraud," I added smoothly, leaning against the doorframe. "You really thought you could play CEO while treating my inheritance like your personal piggy bank, didn't you, Daniel? You thought because I stayed home, because I chose peace over shouting matches, that I was a fool."

"Claire, please," Daniel choked out, his voice cracking as the reality of prison time and total public humiliation crashed down on him. "We can talk about this. Inside. Just... let's talk. We're husband and wife."

"Not for much longer," I said, gesturing to David.

David stepped forward, holding out a single sheet of paper—an expedited divorce petition complete with a signed asset forfeiture waiver, demanding total relinquishment of any claim to my personal fortune, our homes, and our accounts.

"Sign it, Daniel," I said, my voice dropping to a quiet, lethal whisper. "Sign it, pack your things from the guest house, and go back to your precious CEO. Let's see how much she loves you when you don't have a billion-dollar company to hide behind."

Daniel stared at the paper, his hands trembling violently. Behind us, his phone began ringing again inside his pocket—likely Vanessa, wondering where her groom had gone, realizing that her shiny new acquisition was already turning into worthless dust.

With shaking, defeated fingers, Daniel grabbed the pen David offered him, scrawled his name across the bottom line like a condemned man signing his own death warrant, and collapsed against the porch railing in absolute defeat.
